NYC Potpourri with a Dash of Detroit

IMG_3003NYC PotpourriDuring my recent trip to New Jersey I caught this on the side of a half-n-half container:

“WHEN OFFERED FOR SALE IN N.Y. CITY MAY BE SOLD UNTIL MIDNIGHT OF DATE INDICATED ON TOP.”

Because you can get a quart of half-n-half at midnight in New York City.

I love NYC so much.  I’ll never forget my brother visiting from Korea and in the morning after a long, loud, fun night we had bagel sandwiches, coffee and strawberry milk (mine) delivered to our door.  Hot and cheap.  Except for the milk.

My in-laws were hit by Hurricane Sandy resulting in lots of trees down and branches everywhere:

My heart goes out to all those still suffering from the aftermath.

I didn’t make it into the city this time back east.  My in-laws live south enough to make the commute quite long and we were only there five days.  Still though I got a peek at the skyline when landing in Newark and my heart sure did skip a beat.

Our next trip takes us to Detroit, the place I was born but not raised, and because Martha says to, we are thinking of taking a couple of days to explore Corktown.  Now if only we can find a hotel with a few more amenities:
