The Worst Thing I Did All Week

In an effort to get someone to sleep somewhere – anywhere – I offered our bedroom to Arlo and put Farrah in Arlo’s room for a nap.  I could have tried to put her somewhere else like say . . . oh . . . her crib, but the monitor is already in Arlo’s room so I went with it.  I am so exhausted y’all.  I bolstered her baby body with every pillow in the room, moved the camera so I could see her and went about my business.

Hours later, Kris is home, upstairs with the kids and suddenly asks me if I’m cooking something.  Ha!  “No”  I shout.  Minutes later I join them upstairs to put Arlo’s laundry away and am SMACKED in the face with the smell of something burning.

Monitor Monitor Monitor

I’ve GOT to get rid of all this track lighting.

Yes, I put the camera on top of a light fixture.  Yes, I forget to put it back on the shelf.  No, I never expected anyone to turn on the light and leave it on in the middle of a summer afternoon.  But I have a 3 1/2-year-old.

“CHILD’S ROOM GOES UP IN FLAMES; TRAGEDY CAPTURED ON CAMERA!”  because the camera itself is the SOURCE OF THE FIRE.

Cinders and bloody ashes.

Sleep well out there!  See you Monday.

  1. Oh, bless you. It’s OK. Our senses are there to warn us of IMPENDING danger. Yours worked fine and you resolved the problem before it got to a crisis stage. But my knees get watery just thinking about those moments when I’ve done similar things.
