MMM – Nielsen Tennis Stadium
Mostly Madison Mondays – a howdoyoudo from my hometown of Madison, Wisconsin
†
Our friend Seth, a tennis player, invited us along yesterday to the University’s Nielsen Tennis Stadium to watch a Men’s match. Another day of single digit temps and idea fatigue had us readily accepting. Both Kris and I like to watch tennis and Kris used to play, but more importantly, it would likely be a good time for the kiddos in a big indoor space.
The stadium has all the ingredients for a walloping good time: bleachers! platforms! railings! and you can even bear witness to manly displays of teamwork and sportsmanship.
There was just one problem with the afternoon’s adventure: you’re supposed to be silent at a tennis match. See?
That does not jive with a 1, 3, 4, and 5-year-old in the audience but to be fair, the 3 and 5 year-olds probably would have been fine without the introduction of the 4 year-old. Respecting the game, we hightailed it downstairs to a closed off area only to discover something even better than bleachers and platforms: an empty squash court.
Perfect for playing Poker Family and getting all those screaming sillies out.
If this winter drones on I suspect we’ll return to the Nielson Tennis Stadium, even if it means booking the squash court in advance.
Shhhhh!
