World Breastfeeding Week, Belatedly
I asked Kris to take this picture of me when visiting Utah last week thinking “When will I ever breastfeed again at 9,100 feet?!?” Farrah Star is 17-months-old and shows no signs of weaning. Last week was World Breastfeeding Week so I salute you fellow breastfeeding mothers, belatedly.
Three days before this photo was taken Farrah refused the breast for the better part of an afternoon and night. Farrah nurses as she pleases so I was very alarmed. Was she going on strike? How will she sleep? How will she eat? FOR THE LOVE OF GOD HOW WILL WE FLY TOMORROW? It turns out she had hand/foot/mouth disease and everything she put in her mouth caused her pain. It passed but it made me so much more aware of the importance of our breastfeeding relationship; it not only means everything to me, it IS everything to me, and to her. Or more humorously:
And more factually:
Breastfeeding really does it all so Farrah and I, for the most part, continue happily (I could really do without the nipple-twiddling though. Gaw. Stop that!).
I’ll see you at next year’s celebration, I have no doubt.
