Mostly Montreal Monday

Shots and thoughts from my new home of Montreal

Mt. Royal Park is the Central Park of Montreal and that’s really obnoxious to say except that the guy who designed Central Park designed Mt. Royal Park.  True story.

Mt. Royal

It is a large, beautiful park and I imagine we’ll have many outings there so here is the first of … many.

The Mount Royal cross:  The first Mount Royal Cross was placed there in 1643 by Paul Chomedey de Maisonneuve, the founder of the city, in fulfillment of a vow he made to the Virgin Mary when praying to her to stop a disastrous flood. Today, the mountain is crowned by a 31.4 m (103 ft)-high illuminated cross, installed in 1924 by the Société Saint-Jean-Baptiste and now owned by the city. It was converted to fibre-optic light in 1992, and then to LEDs in 2009. The cross is usually lit in white, but can now be changed to any colour, including the purple traditionally used upon the death of a Pope. – Wikipedia

It’s autumn, the sun was shining and it was a good day to get out of the house.  Like everyday!  We had our ups and downs –

Mt. Royal Mt. Royal Mt. Royal

like everyday!  – but with the views of our new city, the blanketed footpaths and the two limp cheese sticks from being in my pocket since the day before, we had a lovely morning.

Peace to you fellow Monday Warriors.  Hope you are enjoying your green, yellow, orange, red and brown spaces.
