Coloring Salvation: Nida
I picked up coloring as something to enjoy with my son when he’s table-side.
Some say it’s not therapy but the mind drifts when hands shift and here’s what I’ve been thinking:
I thought I colored this heart mindlessly but there is no such thing as mindlessness. Amen? Amen. As the colors I chose became more varied and the design more intricate, my mind turned to Nida, a six-year-old to whom I had mailed a similar heart weeks before. Her mom videotaped her opening the note and as she did Nida exclaimed, “Auntie Lisa did this? This is amazing!” all wide-eyed wonder. There’s nothing better than making someone else happy unless that someone is a child because that’s the best thing ever. Amen? Amen. When I colored this heart as my son colored his drawing (or more likely worked on a Lego), I thought of Nida and all kids who dive right in and marvel at the little things.
I’m going to rip this heart out and mail it today to a now seven-year-old in celebrate her unbridled enthusiasm. In fact, I’m going to rip out all my hearts and send them on because what is art if not for sharing?
Thanks for reading. Have a great weekend.
